ATLANTA — Rosalynn Carter is lying in repose at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta, allowing the public to pay respects to the former first lady.
Events are scheduled from Monday through Wednesday in both Atlanta and in Plains.
According to the official website, Carter laying in repose at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta will be the first major public event honoring the first lady.
Her journey to Atlanta started at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus at around 10:25 a.m.
Carter's body will be transferred to a hearse where she will be accompanied by members of her Secret Service detail, with both past and present members being in attendance.
Then, they will leave Americus and head up to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, and she will have a 3:30 p.m. repose service in the lobby of the museum.
The next day, on Tuesday, they will have their Tribute service at the Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University at around 1 p.m. and it will last 2:30 p.m. There, many notable political figures — including President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden — will be in attendance.
Other former presidents will also be attending the Atlanta memorial, too.
After that, Carter's body will be taken back to Plains where Carter's funeral will be held on Wednesday.
Carter will be buried on the family's property in Plains.
