Robins Air Force Base Commander Colonel Lyle Drew made it clear that they are growing missions and the workload across the Air Logistics Complex at a news conference Thursday.
Drew said, “We are hiring, and we have tremendous opportunity here.”
In his talk with local reporters, he emphasized the need to bring on new hires faster at Robins to support their plan to bring on 1,200 new employees in the next 12 months.
Col. Drew said that the Air Force is in a “fight for talent."
He said they are working to do a better job of civilian hiring by streamlining the process. He said it is possible to apply for a job now, and receive an offer within a few hours.
They hope to get people started within 30 days of receiving an offer. He pointed to workatrobins.com to apply for open positions on the base.
He said, “To get that talent, you have to be quicker than your competitor, when they see a job that they want to do, and we need them to do for us. Every day, we try to find new and innovative way to do civilian hiring better.”
In his talk, Col. Drew also highlighted the working being done at the VECTR center, which is a job training facility for veterans located across from Robins.
He said veterans transitioning out of the military can now stay in base housing, while they attend classes at VECTR.
He said, “We appreciate the service the provided for our country, but most importantly, we want them to have a great transition back into civilian life.”
Col. Drew also praised community partnerships with the Houston County School Board and area colleges.
He said the relationship with the local union has also improved under new leadership that took office last spring.
