Say R.I.P. to your documents: Keep Macon Beautiful holds community shredding event

Lots of folks with stacks of old documents showed up to properly dispose of them on Saturday.

MACON, Ga. — Lots of folks in Macon on Saturday got the chance to say goodbye to some of their old documents by shredding them up at Luther Williams field.

Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) hosted the event, where folks rolled up in their cars and unloaded boxes and bags filled with old papers.

People could bring up to three bags or boxes to shred with Shred Monster, all free of charge.

"Citizens of Macon-Bibb County can do many things to protect our environment. Each of us can make a difference by reducing, reusing, and recycling materials throughout our community and encouraging our neighbors to do the same," said KMBB Director Asha Ellen. "In addition to protecting our environment, document/paper shredding also protects against the risks of identity theft and fraud."

The shredding lasted from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. Don't worry though!

If you didn't get a chance to shred your documents on Saturday, two more community shredding events are scheduled - one for April 27, and another for May 17 at Luther Williams Field.

At the event on April 27, folks will also be able to bring their old electronics and paint to be recycled.
