Retired NFL Player treats Macon Fire Dept. to a day of shopping to give back to community

The former Denver Broncos player had a giveaway of all kinds of merchandise, like household items, clothing, shoes, auto parts, workout items, and more.

MACON, Ga. — One retired NFL player returned to his hometown on Saturday to gift firefighters lots of merchandise as a way to give back to the community.

Former Denver Broncos defensive back Roger Jackson had a giveaway of all kinds of merchandise, like household items, clothing, shoes, auto parts, workout items, and more.

He  wanted to reward the unsung heroes of Macon Bibb... and this time honored the Fire Department.

It was the first year anything like this has been done, and it was to take care of the people who take care of us. Jackson has honored teachers and law enforcement in the past, and knows that they do their job without any kind of reward.

Jackson grew up in Macon, and went to Central High School. He played five seasons with the Denver Broncos in the NFL. He was also a scout for nine years with the Minnesota Vikings, two with the Kansas City Chiefs and two with the Denver Broncos.

The giveaway lasted from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.
