Forsyth making $3 million renovations to Country Club Park

The city is building 16 new pickleball courts, a new connective road, a covered basketball court, paved parking lot and a small amphitheater at the club.

FORSYTH, Ga. — Despite the heat, plenty of folks are spending these dog days of summer outside.

In Forsyth, many people head out to the Country Club Park to visit the playground and walk the trails.

With that in mind, the city is building 16 new pickleball courts, a new road that will connect to the golf course, a covered basketball court, paved parking lot and a small amphitheater at the Country Club Park.

Morgan Ezelle said she enjoys taking her kids to the splash pad at the Country Club.

“We come here, and we love it, the splash pad is so fun in the summer. (It's) just a place to cool off,” Ezelle said.

She says the park has been long overdue for renovations.

“The resources right now they’re just outdated, and I just think it needs an update,” Ezelle said.

She now gets to pick up a paddle and choose to step out on one of 16 new courts.

“I want to take up pickleball, so I'm really excited about the courts coming,” Ezelle said.

The price tag for all the new additions totals $3 million, according to city officials.

Mayor Eric Wilson says they're receiving a land and water conservation grant for some of the expenses and the city will contribute the rest.

“It's already getting a lot of use with the skate park and the splash pad, and the playground equipment," Wilson said. "We're are to be upgrading and putting in new playground equipment when we do this expansion so it's going to be really great for the citizens of Forsyth."

While there's a lot of 'new' coming to the park, Mayor Wilson says they'll also refresh some of the activities that already exist.

“Two playgrounds, actually. We're going to be replacing all of that equipment with brand new equipment," he said. "It's just going to be nice. We have a walking trail already up here and a dog park. We got a lot of features here that are going to stay there going to get a refresh."

Wilson says he hopes to have everything completed by the end of this year.
