'I don't know where they're helping' | Residents frustrated with Baldwin County's attempts to cut down on crime

There are around 92 Flock cameras in Baldwin County alone. Pictures are taken of vehicles each day and held for 30 days.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — For the past two years, Baldwin County has relied on Flock cameras to help prevent crime.

Flock cameras have been a cornerstone for Intelligence Analyst Evelyn Johnson, who navigates crime data through the Flock dashboard.

Johnson said her role involves utilizing the Flock cameras and other software to track crime trends and develop strategies aimed at reducing criminal activity.

"The Flock cameras have been an instrumental tool in our investigations," she said. "They have helped us identify suspects much faster."

Despite the positive impact highlighted by the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department, not everyone in the community believes these cameras help. Susie Marshall, a resident along Youngblood Road, said she was unsatisfied with the Flock cameras.

"If they got 92 Flock cameras, I don't know where they're helping," Marshall said. "But they're not helping on the south side. Not the Flock cameras."

Marshall and her neighbors said they're frustrated with the speeding issues near their homes and question the effectiveness of the cameras in curbing crime.

"They believe less crime would mean fewer police chases in their neighborhood," she said. "If crime had been lower, why do we still have all these cars out here outrunning the police?"

Marshall said her concerns extend beyond crime to include safety, particularly regarding speeding and police pursuits. Despite the technological advancements, she doesn't feel safer with the presence of Flock cameras.

She said she wants to see more measures for safety in her neighborhood.
