MACON, Ga. — Folks at Alice's Place Adult Day Care were filled with Mother's Day spirit Friday morning.
They got a special surprise while listening to some live music.
Residents and family members gathered at 10 a.m. for some live music by Mr. Stanley Glover, Macon's oldest gospel group quartet singer.
Residents smiled, sang and clapped their hands as they enjoyed the music.
After a few songs, a special guest walked in the door to present each resident with a rose.
People grinned as Sheriff David Davis made his rounds, shaking hands and talking with each resident as flowers were handed out.
Owner Patricia Duncan said it meant a lot for the sheriff to come by.
"We love to call on him so that the clients can see the sheriff. Cause a lot of times, you know, people see the sheriff on TV when its bad, and we wanna make sure that when he come out here its something good, and so this is a great celebration for our mothers," she said.
Duncan said she first met Davis when she was in the Exchange Club of Macon many years ago. She calls him a good friend now, and says he always answers her calls and squeezes visits to Alice's Place in his schedule.
Davis said it was rewarding to recognize all the mothers for their work over the years.
"Its certainly uplifting, I've been to this facility several times in the past and they do a good job here with the Day Care, and just to stop by and thank those ladies for their mothering all through the years was nice," he said.
In addition to Davis handing out roses, residents also got mothers day cards and other goodies.
