Vineville Christian Towers is a low-income senior facility with more than 100 units.
A group of women who live there have stepped up, asking county commissioners to send out inspectors, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office for protection, and the company that owns the property to pay to get rid of the mold and bed bugs.

Patricia Peurifoy says she's fighting to get improvements for her neighbors. “That's the reason I jumped into this -- because I care about my friends,” said Peurifoy.
Peurifoy says they've been seeing mold and rust growing throughout the building, while the air conditioning unit that cools the hallways remains broken, getting near 86 degrees on some of the top floors.
They’re also dealing with bed bugs and security problems.
“We're breathing in mold spores, and so many people are on oxygen and have problems already, including heart problems,” said Peurifoy.
People are stepping up to help. Seth Clark lives near the apartment complex. He has started this petition. It asks the owners, a California-based company called Christian Church Homes, to provide for the repairs from their $17 million fund balance.
“This is someone's grandmother, this is someone's sister, and they have felt like their pleads and complaints to the company have fallen on deaf ears,” said Clark.
The company gave us this statement.
“It has happened before -- they've cleaned up before and after, whatever it is is over, everything went back to whatever it is or worse,” said Peurifoy.
Peurifoy hopes that the property management group or the county can provide long-term help for the seniors that live there.
Commissioner Al Tillman says he contacted Senator David Perdue's office to see if a representative from US Department of Housing and Urban Development could inspect the units and make sure they don't break any codes.
Based on their last HUD inspection more than 2-and-a-half years ago, Vineville Christian Towers scored a 95. Back in 2015, they scored a score of 49.
