GRIFFIN, Ga. — A young Georgia father's life was taken too soon after he was killed as a passenger in a single-vehicle crash in Griffin two weeks ago, according to loved ones. The driver, according to an incident report, was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred.
Georgia State Patrol investigated the deadly incident where Quavarian Taylor, 21, also known as “ ManMan,” according to loved ones, was killed.
"A young person full of life taken at the age of only 21 years old," his sister, Shamaria Taylor, said in an online fundraiser.
It happened on June 1 around 10:19 p.m. on State Route 16, heading towards West Poplar Street, when the driver of a Ford Mustang carrying three other passengers ran off the road while traveling "too fast for conditions" around a sharp curve.
The car then rotated uncontrollably and laid drag before hitting a tree. The driver told troopers they ran off the road to avoid a deer. Troopers then determined that the driver was drunk driving and recklessly driving, the report said.
GSP stated in their report that the driver was taken by Air Life to Grady Hospital the night of the incident. It's unclear if the driver is still in the hospital and if they will face any charges at this time. Loved ones said the driver was Taylor's friend.
Two other people were also in the vehicle when the crash happened, the report indicates.
According to loved ones, Taylor leaves behind two young boys -- a 6-month-old and a 2-year-old.
"Quavarian was such an honored person; to know him was to love him in every way," a loved one said.
A balloon release was held in his honor.
His loved ones want to share a message reminding people not to drink and drive.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that people should practice responsible behaviors, including:
- Designate a sober driver if you are planning to drink.
- Don't let friends who are under the influence get behind the wheel.
- If you are hosting a party, make sure all guests leave with a sober driver or use a rideshare or taxi to get home safely.
- Wear your seat belt. "It’s your best defense against impaired drivers," the administration said.
