It's Primary Election Day | Here's what it takes to get the polls ready for voters

In Macon-Bibb, 31 precincts are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. for Primary Election Day.

MACON, Bibb County — If you waited until Primary Election Day to vote, you must go to your assigned precinct to cast your ballot on Tuesday.

It takes a lot of effort from your poll workers to ensure your voting process is smooth, simple and secure.

"This is the election where the parties pick the candidates that will be in the general election in November," Macon-Bibb Election Supervisor Tom Gillon said.

For Georgia voters, you can pick any ballot you want when you walk into the precinct since you're voting in an open-primary race.

"You will need to declare a party, and you can pick either choice you want, or pick the nonpartisan ballot if you want," Gillon said.

In Macon-Bibb, 31 precincts are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Primary Election Day.

Some supplies included in the election kits are required voter forms, printers, touchscreens, and tabulator scanners that you feed your ballot into.

It's important that you make sure to vote at your assigned precinct and check if your location's changed.

If you have to take time off work to vote, Gillon said his team's got you covered with excuse slips available at the precincts.

"We have pads at each polling place that each manager can sign that says this voter took time to go and work and they can take that back to their boss or HR department, or whoever's relevant," Gillon said.

If those pads aren't available at your precinct, you should be able to request your poll manager for a excuse note, according to the election supervisor.

And if you bring your kids, Gillon says that's fine, they get a sticker too!

"We try to be generous with the stickers," he said.

You can find your assigned voting precinct on the Secretary of State's "Georgia My Voter" page.

31 precincts are opening their doors in Macon-Bibb at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, including Beulah Baptist Church. If you are assigned to vote there on Tuesday, be careful on the roads because there's construction happening.

It may take a bit more time than usual to get in and out if there's a large turnout.
