MACON, Ga. — H&H Soul Food restaurant has served meals in Macon since 1959. General manager Tangie Myers says they were one of the many impacted by inflation.
"We are going to do a price increase on our menu it has to happen," says Myers.
She says she noticed egg prices rose and that's not all.
"Meat is out of the world. Meat prices have skyrocketed," says Myers.
Prices for other materials rose too.
"The prices of cups, to-go plates, carry-out plates, dry goods they also went up on the prices," explained Myers.
Greg George, Middle Georgia State University economist, says inflation has impacted most people.
"We had about a 30% increase in prices between the beginning of COVID and now. Economists say we have inflation under control. It is under control, but those price increases everyone is complaining about is here to stay," says George.
In 2024, George recommends being responsible with your budgeting.
"The fact that we have inflation and now it's under control does not mean inflation is going back down. Once they go up they stay up," explained George.
According to the Georgia Department of Labor, Central Georgia saw the unemployment rate go down. In August the rate was 4.1%. In November the rate dropped to 3.2%.
