Bring one for the Chipper! People line up to dispose of last month's Christmas Trees

The trees get mulched, and then folks can take the mulch home to use in home improvement projects like gardening.

MACON, Ga. — Folks brought out their old Christmas trees to Carolyn Crayton park this morning to properly dispose of them.

The trees are all brought to a big wood chipper, where they are turned into mulch. Families can them choose to take thet mulch home if they like, to use on their lawns or in their gardens.

Seeds are even provided for people to take so they can start a garden if they want to!

The event is hosted by the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, which held its first series of Bring One for the Chipper events in 1991.

33 years later, folks are still bringing lots of trees to the chipper.

Organizers say it’s good for these to trees to not sit in landfills… and a lot of mulch gets used for personal and commercial gardens.

Lots of volunteers also showed up to help, from places like Stratford Academy, the Optimist Group & Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation, and the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation.  Tattnall, Stratford, and Howard all had students that volunteered as well.
