PERRY, Ga. — On Thursday, contestants gathered to determine the greatest goat in the southeastern region.
The Peach State Classic brought goat owners from all over the southeast to compete and be judged on a variety of different breeds of goats.
The American Bore Goat Association sanctioned the show. To be in the show, the goats had to be registered by the association. Those judged were divided in three groups: full bloods, percentage goats and buck goats.
The event had three shows, which included one on Friday and two on Saturday.
There were 97 entries in this edition of the show. The shows are usually put on in March and October alongside August.
Each goat was judged on five different aspects: goat’s conformation, breed characteristic, width, dimension and muscle.
All goats at the Saturday show were listed as “bore” goats, which means they’re meant for meat production and their offspring could go into the food chain.
The event ran typically ran from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
