Fort Valley traffic stop lands 5 in jail over stolen guns and large amount of marijuana, police say

They say the traffic stop occurred near State University Drive and Jones Alley in Fort Valley during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The Fort Valley Police Department arrested five people after finding a large amount of marijuana, two stolen guns and a digital scale during a traffic stop, according to a press release from the department.

They say officers were patrolling on Wednesday at around 1:48 a.m. near State University Drive and Jones Alley when the officer saw a Chrysler Pacifica driving without headlines.

That's when the officer conducted a traffic stop and encountered five suspects from Warner Robins.

The press release says 19-year-old Tyrell Battle, 18-year-old Ryan Ford, 17-year-old Matthew Mendez, 18-year-old Kenneth Lawerence and 21-year-old Dveon Hart were arrested.

During the stop, Fort Valley Police found two stolen guns — one from Bibb County, the other from Warner Robins — along with "a felony amount of marijuana." They also found a box containing sandwich bags and a digital scale, which the department notes is "consistent with drug sales."

Now, the five suspects are charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during certain crimes, theft by receiving stolen firearms and drug-related offenses.
