CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ga. — A man was injured and a woman was killed after being hit by a truck at the Monroe/Crawford County line, according to a press release from the Crawford County Sheriff's Office.
They say it happened on Monday at around 7:20 p.m. on Highway 42 North near Hays Farm Road.
Coroner Sheldon Mattox says the two victims — a 28-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man — were hit by a pick-up truck while walking in the middle of the highway. They were walking south at the time, Mattox said.
The woman was identified as Brittaney Nicole McDowell of Atlanta, Mattox said.
The woman had died from her injuries when deputies arrived on the scene, but the man was taken to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon where he is being treated for his injuries, the press release said.
Mattox says the male victim is still at the hospital recovering Tuesday afternoon.
The names of the victims have not been released as Mattox works to notify the next of kin.
The case is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol and the Crawford County Sheriff's Office.
