Cappuccinos and kittens | This Central Georgia cafe is partnering with local animal shelters

They are partnering with three local shelters to tackle overcrowding problems

PERRY, Georgia — A new cafe in Perry is offering a unique twist on the typical coffee shop experience.

Paws Awhile Cat Cafe, located at 1200 Macon Road, not only serves up a cup of joe but also offers customers a chance to spend time with adoptable cats.

The cafe, which partners with local animal shelters like PAWS in Middle Georgia and the Houston Humane Society, aims to help find homes for cats while providing a relaxing space for visitors.

“We wanted to create a fun and relaxing environment where people could meet cats in a way that’s more personal and less stressful than a typical shelter,” Rebecca Marfell, the cafe’s owner said. “It’s been a great way to introduce potential adopters to their future pets.”

Visitors to Paws Awhile can grab a coffee on one side of the cafe and then step into the cat lounge, where several cats await. Customers are welcome to interact with the cats, many of whom are available for adoption.

“This kind of environment allows cats to show their true personalities,” Jessica Gomez, president of PAWS Middle Georgia said. “It helps people see which one might be a good fit for their home.”

Since opening, the cafe has seen multiple adoptions. Caitlin Storey, a volunteer from Rescue Ranch, said the cafe’s relaxed atmosphere makes a big difference for both the cats and potential adopters.

“We’ve had so much success with this partnership already,” Caitlin said. “People come for coffee, stay for the cats, and often leave with a new family member.”

The setup allows people to spend time with the cats and get to know them before making the decision to adopt. It’s a thoughtful process that benefits both the animals and their future owners, said Bill Patton, a volunteer at Houston Humane Society.

“People who may not have considered adopting before now have a chance to interact with these animals in a new way,” Patton said. “It’s making a big difference.”

With its cozy atmosphere and heartwarming mission, Paws Awhile Cat Cafe is quickly becoming a popular spot for locals and cat lovers from across Central Georgia. The cafe is open daily, except Thursdays, with adoption details available on-site or through their website.
