Coroner: One pronounced dead at scene after crash in Houston County

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.

KATHLEEN, Ga. — One person is dead after a crash Saturday night in Houston County according to coroner James Williams.

He says it happened around 11 p.m. on Moody Road just north of Highway 127 in Kathleen.

Williams says many details are not available at this time. He did say the car was attempting to flee from law enforcement when it crashed.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) says they were called in to investigate the crash.

They confirmed the driver was fleeing from deputies and officers when they failed to negotiate a curve. The car left the roadway and traveled several yards where it hit a parked motor home.

The car overturned and came to rest on its roof. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, GSP says.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon as part of the investigation.

No further information is available and the victim's name is not being released at this time.
