Northway Church to add nearly 60k square feet

MACON, Ga. -- A north Macon church is one step closer to starting work on a major expansion after the Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission approved their preliminary plans.

Northway Baptist Church, on Zebulon Rd., plans to add a 3,491 sq. ft. coffee shop and a 10,312 sq. ft. youth worship center in phase one of their project.

They also plan to eventually construct a new 14,500 sq. ft. sanctuary that will house 1,600 people — double their current capacity of 800 people.

In the past, people in that area vocally opposed developments that may bring more traffic to the area, but, on Tuesday, many of them told 13WMAZ that they don't mind the church expansion.

A project manager said the church hopes to break ground by the end of the year.

Northway Baptist Church declined to comment for this story.
