ARLINGTON, Texas — If you looked at pictures, you’d be able to see how happy Breya and Tyler White were together. They were each other’s best friends, doing everything together.
Tyler, a father of three, was described by those who knew him as “a stand-up guy” and a loyal friend.
“He was such a good man,” said his wife Breya, a former employee at WFAA. “Always willing to help any friend.”
Breya fought back tears as she shared her pain. “I miss my husband so...so bad. I don’t understand how this happened to us.”
Tyler died on Saturday after he was hit by a car while helping a friend. Breya said she and Tyler were at a family holiday party when a friend called Tyler and asked for help after their wife’s car slid off the road and got stuck.
Arlington Police said the crash happened on N. Watson Road near Division St.
Police said White and the woman were out of their cars attempting to attach a tow cable from her car to White's GMC Yukon when a 34-year-old woman driving a BMW SUV approached at a high rate of speed and hit White and the woman.
When officers arrived around 1 a.m., they found White and the woman injured, lying on the ground, according to APD. Police said both were taken to the hospital, where White was pronounced dead and the woman was listed in critical condition.
Breya, who was sitting in one of the cars, said their vehicle was hit too.
“All I saw was lights,” she said.
The driver remains in critical condition as police investigate whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
“I just regret not saying nothing, not speaking up saying let’s get the car in the morning cause I worked in news. I know,” said Breya. “I have to raise three kids by myself.”
Breya said Tyler was an incredible husband and father. He worked as an airplane mechanic.
Breya said she wants justice for her husband. “I just pray that somebody is held accountable for breaking my family,” Breya said through tears.
Her coworkers at SMU have created GoFundMe.
