MACON, Ga. — Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will continue construction on the I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project through Dec. 1. There are major changes.
Changes include the closure of the Hardeman Avenue exit from I-16 West until late 2025.
Gina Snider with the agency says in the current stage of construction, there is no way to get to Hardeman Avenue from the interstate.
Via text, 13WMAZ asked if that meant there would be no access to the road until that time. She replied, "Correct."
The agency also says the far right lane of I-75 north at the Georgia Avenue exit will closed for the next 'several months.' However, those changes will not go into effect until next week, Snider said, so there will be no changes during the course of your Thanksgiving travel.
GDOT says the overall project is a $500 million safety and mobility improvement 'megaproject.' According to the agency's website, all road work is scheduled to be complete by late 2025. Phase 6 of the project handles mostly railroad construction and is slated to finish in 2030, Snider said in October.
