MACON, Ga. -- The new 100.9 The Creek wrapped up its first day of live radio Friday night, beginning what they promise to be a Macon-centric Americana-themed radio station.
They began their broadcast at 10:09 a.m. Friday morning with live performances and appearances by local figures like Warner Robins Mayor Randy Toms and Macon-Bibb County Commissioner Larry Schlesinger.
Charles Davis, a Macon-raised singer, sang "Georgia on My Mind" live on the station Friday afternoon. He's been singing for his whole life.
"My grandmother said, when I was born, the first thing she said was, 'That boy's gonna be a singer,'" Davis said.
Friday was the first time he's ever sang on the radio.
"Them asking me to sing.... You know, that's big," he said.
Brad Evans, co-owner of The Creek, said he hopes the station will be something that central Georgia hasn't seen in a long time.
"You know, that's the big thing: We want our station to live and breathe our region," he said.
Just a few weeks ago, 13WMAZ's Dillon Richards showed you what it looked like before all the renovations. Back then, it looked empty, but on Friday, it was filled with audio equipment and classic Americana music.
That makes Davis feel right at home.
"Oh, you put me on a stage, and you put me under lights and you put a microphone in my hand... I flip a switch," he said, smiling.
