Memorial Day is a little over a month away, which means a lot of people will be looking for a place to cool off and relax.
One of Macon's most popular spots is Sandy Beach Water Park.
However, last year the park faced a lot of changes including new management, so we wanted to check in on the condition of the park to see if they are planning to open this year.
According to the management group, Jeff Ellis Management, a bank still owns the park, but they are running the day-to-day operations.
One of the park’s managers, Joelle Goodwin, says she has been hard at work getting the water park ready for opening day.
“We're getting it out of its winterization and getting the pools all cleaned and everything spiffy and new for our guests coming out,” said Goodwin.
This is the park's third season, but Goodwin says it is her first, so she says she is looking at what her company did last year to make sure this year is the best one yet.
“As a company, that was our first time running the property, so we're hoping to build upon some of the things that didn’t work and how can we improve it,” said Goodwin.
Goodwin and her co-manager, Nikola Kedzic, say they are not making any structural changes this year, but they want the park to look and feel brand new.
“He’s been out here scrubbing all these chairs to make sure they look brand new, all spic and span,” said Goodwin.
And while there might not be any new pools or slides, Kedzic says they want to add new entertainment features.
“We're going to bring out the games, parties, live music, DJs playing out here,” said Kedzic.
Kedzic says he is hoping they will be able to use their experience from this summer to help the park grow in the coming years.
“Get some new ideas and experience for you guys out here,” said Kedzic.
The park will be open starting May 25.
