ROBERTA, Ga. — A new data mining facility will be built in Roberta starting in 2024.
The facility will cost about $8 million and it’s largely automated.
Although it won't create too many jobs once it's up and running, it still means new tax revenue and growth for Crawford County.
Cryptauh LLC will be moving into an empty lot soon on Industrial Park Road in Roberta.
According to Arthur Barry, an Associate Commercial Real Estate Broker with Coldwell Banker Commercial Eberhardt & Barry, Inc., the company is basically a 'how to build the block' chain for cryptocurrency types of businesses.
Although the plan is to be fully automated, Barry said there will be about 25 to 30 people employed while construction is taking place.
Barry says the central location and affordable acreage helped bring the company here.
"This particular user selected Crawford County for the data center," Barry said. "Starting the first quarter of 2024, there will be numerous construction jobs available at the sight I would suspect, and I would imagine there'd be a few permanent jobs to maintain the computer systems on sight."
Tisa Horton is the economic executive director for the Crawford County Development Authority. She said it's a one-of-a-kind modern data center and it will be a huge technological and economic boost for Crawford County.
"The development will definitely benefit the county tax base," Horton said. "We are moving to where we are leveraging innovation technology and providing sustainability as far as the infrastructure and then we do have growth with jobs."
Although this will be a year-long development, the change starts now within the community.
"It's just saying to the community here we grow again," Horton said. "We are growing. This new innovation of technology is developing in our county."
Barry says the central location and affordable acreage helped bring the company here.
Construction is set to commence 1st Quarter of 2024, with an estimated completion by the 3rd Quarter of 2024.
