'The biggest construction that we've seen' | Dublin mall preparing to add new stores, restaurants

Three new businesses have signed leases on the mall property, and the mall is in talks with more businesses too.

DUBLIN, Ga. — In Dublin, some shoppers are excited to see new businesses opening up soon.

Three new stores have signed leases on the mall property, and the mall says it is in talks with at least four more.

"Right now, this is definitely - with everything going on - the biggest construction that we've seen since [2015]," McKnight Engler Director of Operations Brianna Hamby said.

Some shoppers, like Jessica Lee, said she would come to the mall more often if there were more options.

"I like the prices but I don't like the fact that there's not enough variety," Lee said.

Lee said there are good deals in the Dublin Mall, but she can't wait for more stores to open up, especially when she goes to bigger malls and sees the bigger variety there.

According to the Dublin Mall's website, they currently have less than 20 stores open, and their two dining options are Subway and Starbucks.

"Definitely need more options for food. Stores too, definitely. We could be a bigger, better mall with more variety of stores," Lee said.

Hamby said Jersey Mikes, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, and an Aspen Dental are coming to the mall property, hopefully by the end of the year. None of them will be inside the mall's main building. Two of them will be next to Mattress Firm on the mall property. While some malls across the country are struggling, Hamby said the Dublin Mall is doing well.

"I think maybe in some of the larger cities where they do have bigger strip centers and things, you might see some of that dying. For us in these smaller communities such as Dublin, we really see them as the center point of the community. Especially when there's not too much shopping within that you know, four mile radius," she said.

Hamby said the new additions to the mall, can also help boost sales for current stores.

"(Sales) will highly increase. I think all stores, as well as the community, will all thrive with all the new additions," Hamby said.

The Dublin Mall opened in the late 1960's, and Hamby said many stores have came and went, but she's looking forward to what the new changes can add to the Emerald City.
