MACON, Ga. — Four inmates escaping from the county jail and two people charged with helping them– it sounds like a movie plot.
“You never think it's gonna be this close to you,” Katt Bundy said.
She lives at the River Park Apartments and it is this close for her.
The address listed for suspect Jakaylen Williams is the apartment above hers.
We're learning more tonight about the man and woman accused of helping four Bibb County jail inmates escape.
According to Sheriff's Office records, Mykia Williams and Jakaylen Williams live about two miles apart.
The sheriff's office says there's no new news on the search for the inmates, but they did say that Mykia and Jakaylen are not related.
In their neighborhoods, folks say it is a surprise
"It's comforting to know that I’ve never seen him around him, or – to my knowledge – they don't actually live here,” she explained.
She says she's also never seen the blue Dodge Challenger he allegedly used to help the jailbreak.
“That apartment that it has listed for him is just a single mother,” Bundy said. “She doesn’t have a whole lot of foot traffic in and out of her house.”
She said the previous tenant was also a single mother, but she says this week's news is still unsettling.
“To find out that it's this close to home? You know, some of us let our older kids just go outside and play and that's just scary. Whether he knows somebody who lives there or he lived there a long time ago, I just hope I don’t see a blue challenger anytime soon,” Bundy said.
Just two miles away, Mykia Williams lived on Vineville Avenue at the Pine Apartments with her boyfriend and fugitive, Christian Williams.
We spoke to Mykia's upstairs' neighbor who did not want to talk on camera; however, he said he was home when law enforcement came to arrest Christian on Monday.
The Bibb Sheriff’s Office says that Christian, an accused murderer, shot at law enforcement then shot himself and died Tuesday. Only hours before he was set to stand trial for murder, a video appeared to show him being kidnapped.
Mykia’s upstairs neighbor said he didn't know the couple well, but they said Christian had been living with her for a while.
He said they would greet each other from time to time and he said they seemed very nice. He says it's concerning because it's a quiet neighborhood.
“It's good to know that the ones who helped got arrested, and it's gonna be even better to see the ones who actually escaped being arrested,” Bundy said.
Mykia Williams is charged with four counts of aiding another to escape lawful custody, which is a felony.
Jakaylen Williams faces the same charges as well as several other charges like aggravated assault, probation violations and theft.
