MACON, Ga. — Last week, an 18-year-old shot and killed Hunter Hall in East Macon.
It happened August 2, at a house on Dorothy Street. On Monday, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office arrested Dominique Brezial and charged him with murder. He's being held without bond.
Neighbor Cassie Collins said she called 911 on the day of the shooting.
"Sad - it's just sad," she said. "It just breaks my heart."
Another person was also shot at scene, and according to the sheriff's office, they remain in critical but stable condition.
Collins is no stranger to loss. She lost her son in a drowning, and she calls her parents her angels in heaven.
But the loss of Hall on August 2 hit close to home - Collins lives one minute down the street.
She said her neighborhood has a serious problem of kids getting caught up in drugs, gang violence, and shootings like the one on Friday.
"I wasn't surprised, no," Collins said. "This happens every other night. It's not as much as it has been."
While she thinks it's gotten better lately, she said too many people in her neighborhood get away with violent crime.
"People don't wanna come forward because they are afraid," Collins said. "The neighbors don't wanna come forward, because 'I don't wanna have nothing to do with that.'"
She lives next door to a community center and park. While it's meant for kids, she said they can't even enjoy it because of lawlessness.
"They use it for a sex ground. To party, to smoke weed, to shoot, to commit crime," Collins said.
After this last shooting, Collins said she hopes the sheriff's office will step up to install security cameras, and add more patrols.
"It's going to take prayer," she said. "And people standing together, and people reporting things and not being afraid."
We reached out to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office about the crime in the East Macon neighborhood where the shooting happened. Major Tonnie Williams with the patrol division sent us this statement:
"The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office appreciates our community who assists with RING and security footage that aids us during our investigations when crimes occur. During the recent shooting in the area that you are inquiring, A deputy was on scene within two minutes of receiving the emergency call. Another deputy responded with five minutes, and another within seven minutes afterwards. There was a police presence as deputies were on routine patrol in the area which led to a swift response. Also, this year we received two reports of shots fired on Dorothy Street. One of which was a false call, the other call, there was no incident discovered. There also has been no calls from Dorothy Street reporting gang activity which is investigated by our Gang and SRT Unit.”
