Central Georgia's two largest hospitals are exploring the idea of a "strategic combination."
According to a news release Thursday from Navicent Health, Navicent and Houston Healthcare are, "excited about the possibility of creating a health care system in middle Georgia that will bring together an unparalleled collection of advanced healthcare delivery resources to better serve the region."
The goal of joining forces would take advantage of wide range of synergies that will enhance access, improve quality and accelerate the achievement of operational efficiencies, the news release states.
"We share a common culture, vision and values and a successful history of collaborating together and as a part of the Stratus Healthcare network," according to the news release.
Houston Healthcare and Navicent will spend the upcoming months working on details of the potential combination.
