My Teacher is Tops: Mrs. Keri Hayes at Byron Elementary School

Hayes says she became a teacher because she loves children and having fun with them.

BYRON, Ga. — The freezing temperatures are gone now and our hearts are warm just thinking about all the Top Teachers across Central Georgia. At Byron Elementary, we've got a special surprise for one third-grade teacher.

When we surprised Mrs. Keri Hayes, her class was heading to lunch after a lesson about soil and her students were definitely digging it!

Mrs. Hayes has been teaching for 11 and a half years and teaches third-grade math and science at Byron Elementary.

She says she became a teacher because she loves children and having fun with them.

Her favorite part of the job?  When she sees her students have a light bulb moment.

Emerson Gasaway sent us an email nominating Mrs. Hayes.. and says she makes everyone feel loved while they're learning.

"Mrs. Hayes teaches us three-digit math. When we learn about science with Mrs. Hays she makes it interesting, like learning about the Okefenokee swamp," Gasaway said in his letter.

Junior Journalist Karmen Jill asked Hayes if she had any advice for new teachers.

"Stay strong, love your students and build those relationships," Hayes said.

Congratulations Mrs. Hayes!

Now that so many students are back in the classroom, we know you've got some teachers you love!
