My Teacher is Tops: Mrs. Heather Donovan

She may have won before, but Mrs. Donovan was still surprised when Junior Journalist Trevor Gulley showed up to her kindergarten classroom at Creekside Elementary in Milledgeville.

Her student Addison Mosley nominated her for the award and got a little help from her to read the letter she sent to WMAZ.

“She helps us with our sight words, alphabet, and teaches us sign language,” said Mosley.

Mrs. Donovan's students say their favorite time to learn is during centers.

Kaitlyn Solomon says her favorite center is computers.

But, Donovan says it's not just time for fun on the computer. They use computer time to work on math and reading.

“Traditional school work doesn't really work with kindergarten,” said Donovan. “You have to make sure that you're moving and that there's lots of music because otherwise they aren't going to pay attention.”

She doesn't care just about her student’s grades and what they learn in her room -- that's why winning this week’s top teacher means so much to her.

“You're worried about their social wellbeing, their emotional wellbeing, so they understand that you love them as well as wanting the best for them,” said Donovan.
