MACON, Ga. — More than 100 people got wet in a big water gun fight in Warner Robins Friday afternoon. It was aimed at encouraging people to put guns down and water guns up. Sabrina Burse went to Ferguson Park for the "Water Wars" event.
The park was filled with laughter and a little friendly competition. Kids weren't getting hurt, they were getting wet. Amelia Walker donated water supplies for the kids.
"It's so much violence today. Kids need to know that resulting to gun violence is not the answer," said Walker.
She was proud to be a part of something positive in the community. Sidney Smith says he wants kids to know guns are dangerous.
"Guns do destroy people. They destroy families. They destroy lives in a matter of seconds, and that's something I hope we can bring awareness to," said Smith.
Kids were gliding down the water slide, eating some barbecue fresh off the grill, and playing video games in the game truck. Smith says there were plenty of options to keep the kids out of trouble.
"In some of these rougher neighborhoods, they feel like they can't have any fun, so they go around getting into it," said Smith.
Organizer Nyke Hill says he wants to set a good example for generations to come.
"It starts with people like us to do something about it," said Hill.
The the event lasted from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Macon's own "Guns Down, Water Guns Up" event is happening June 30 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Central City Park.
