Missing Telfair County man found dead

The search for a missing Telfair County man ends with sad news.

The search for a missing Telfair County man ends with sad news.

Back in the woods off Misty Lane is where the search ended for missing Telfair County man, Tommy James Hulett.

He was reported missing Saturday morning after he left his home on Misty Lane on foot Friday.

"He had a medical issue that we knew without treatment, he would be in crisis," Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson said.

Hulett's mother Sharon Mathis says she knew something was wrong when he didn't come home to his wife and three young children.

"I thought he was dead," Mathis said.

Mathis says her son was diabetic and had heart problems.

"I just felt that he couldn't stand the heat," Mathis said.

Hulett's brother Jeffery says he knew where his brother was.

"I seen some buzzards flying around and I already went to that location and I didn't find him," Jeffery said. "But then all the volunteers started coming in."

And those are the people Jeffery say found his brother.

"It just wasn't meant for no family to find him," Jeffery said.

Due to the condition of the body, they haven't been able to make a positive I.D. Sheriff Chris Steverson says they hope the G.B.I. can match his fingerprint to their records.

But he says the family believes Hulett is dead.

"They seem to be pretty well satisfied that this is their loved one, and I don't have any reason to doubt that," Steverson said.

Now the family says they've started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.

"He has no life insurance," Jeffery said. "He was the sole provider for his family, his wife and three kids."

And Mathis says she just wants to thank the hundred people who helped search.

"I just want them to know that we love them all and we appreciate what they've done," Mathis said.
