A Milledgeville home was shot 21 times — and neighbors say they want the violence to stop

One house was shot around 21 times on Aug 20. Neighbors says they want answers on why this gun violence keeps happening.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — One house in Milledgeville at 266 Magnolia Avenue was shot around 21 times on Tuesday night, according to the police department

But neighbors say gun violence seems to be rising in the neighborhood and they want it to stop.

“Yes, we're right there — around the corner," neighbor Felicia Walker says. "I mean shooting and people's car getting shot up and everything. We got older people; it ain't too many young people in this neighborhood for this to be going on.”

Walker is a mother of three who lives on Magnolia Avenue. She says after living in the same home for five years, she has never seen so many shootings as she's seen in the past year. Walker says she worries about her children and their safety.

She says she makes sure to keep her children busy so they stay out of trouble.

“The boys shooting up the road. I have kids running from gunshots,” she says. “On the southside, it's getting ridiculous,”

She says she is tired of the gun violence. Walker says the reason there is gang violence is because of social media.

“If these kids stay off social media and stop posting stuff, it will stop,” she says.

Instead, Walker says those kids should be involved in sports or playing outside, not running from gunshots.

Joshuaway Betha lives a few doors from the house that was shot up. He says he was watching TV and never heard the gunshots.

He says he moved from Martin Luther King Boulevard to be in a safer area. He says he thought Magnolia Avenue was a safe neighborhood, but now, he is concerned.

“It's shocking because this is a good area and there’s older people and it's shocking to see that,” he says.

Betha says he hopes to see more police presence in his neighborhood and more activities for kids to keep them away from violence.

“More education for the young and getting young people something to do in this city like vocational training or stuff like that,” he says.

Police Cheif Dray Swicord says the shooting appears to be gang-related.

Milledgeville Police say they have not arrested anyone in Tuesday night's shooting. If you have any information, you can call the Milledgeville Police Department at 478-414-4090.
