WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Milledgeville man is in jail after allegedly killing his cousin and dumping their body while in Florida, according to a press release from the West Palm Beach police department.
Gary Tromane Everett, 46, was arrested at his Milledgeville apartment in mid-February. They say he was arrested in the Oct. 10, 2023, death of his cousin, 37-year-old Victor Devore Howard.
Back in October, they say Everett flagged down a police officer in Florida, and told them his cousin had been shot at Gramercy Park in Palm Beach County.
They found his cousin "barely alive," the press release said.
When deputies responded to the scene, however, they determined no shooting happened at the location where Everett said it occurred, the press release said.
But earlier, they say a caller said that they had seen someone dragging a body from a car.
Everett made comments to police that they say "were refuted through the resulting investigation by West Palm Beach Homicide Unit detectives." During the course of the investigation, they determined that Everett had actually shot his cousin while in his cousin's work car, the press release said.
Howard was killed after a single gunshot to the head, the press release says.
Detectives also found that a large amount of cash was taken from Howard.
"At the time, Everett failed to provide any information about how Howard was shot, or why he had Howard's car with blood all over him," the press release said.
Right now, Everett is being held at the Baldwin County Jail as authorities in Florida await his extradition. He is charged with second-degree murder with a firearm.
