BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. — Baldwin County has reached a new milestone with its transit service.
The Baldwin County Transit Service has given around 10,000 rides this year.
Tiffany Jordan is the supervisor of the Baldwin Transit. She says she drove the busses for a few months and then got promoted to supervisor.
Jordan said it was her and City Manager Carlos Tobar’s idea to make a goal for 10,000 rides. She said she loves seeing the people who make use of the services.
“You'll get attached to them, you'll start loving them,” she said.
Jordan said she schedules the riders each day and will even help out by driving the transits.
“We haul everybody, it’s no limit for what we do,” she says.
Patricia Lane is a transit rider. She said she has been riding the transit since she became disabled five years ago. Lane says this is her only mode of transportation and she enjoys it.
“I used to worry how I would get to the doctor, how to get there, how I’m gonna get back? How I’m gonna get to the grocery store and how I'm gonna get back?” she said.
Baldwin Transit, however, makes it easier to get to and from appointments. On Friday, Nettie Adams took Baldwin Transit to dialysis.
“It’s just an awesome feeling to know I don't have to worry about who is going to take me to dialysis and back home,” Adams said.
Adams said she enjoys riding the transit. She said that dialysis days are tiring and hard but she looks forward to talking to people on the bus.
“I just tell them just, you ain't got to take me home. I don’t mind riding if they have to take somebody long ways,” Adams said.
Both ladies said they want more buses. Even Jordan the supervisor said she would love it, too.
The transit service will pick up anyone in Baldwin County and it is $2 to ride. Each rider must be picked up in Baldwin County and dropped off in Baldwin County. To schedule a ride you can call 478-445-2941.
