The Milledgeville Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run after a motorist ran over and killed a man Friday night. The family is devastated and say they can't believe such a senseless crime took the life of Eddie Dennis III.
The corner of Evans Avenue and Oconee Street was a crime scene Friday night. The Milledgeville Police Department released a statement saying the victim is 47-year-old Eddie Dennis III. His sister, Nicole Stephens, says Dennis was only 10 months apart in age from her.
"I'm angry. I'm hurt. I loved him," said Stephens.
Stephens says Dennis was a sensitive man who was caring and compassionate.
"He had the biggest heart of anybody. If anybody in the family needed him for anything or any of his friends needed him for anything, he was there," said Stephens.
Major Mike Hudson with Criminal Investigations says police responded to a 911 call around 6:20 p.m., but Emergency Medical Services was not able to save Dennis.
"It's a tragedy, it's senseless," said Stephens.
Stephens says Dennis was also playful and the life of the party with kids.
"If they wanted him to get in the jumpy house, he would get in the jumpy house. That was him even at 47 years old," said Stephens.
His other sister, Lula Williams, says the entire family will never forget the joy Dennis brought to everyone.
"It's hard, it's very hard. We are going to make it. We are family. We are going to make it," said Williams.
The family says it's an emotional time for them, but they gathered Monday to help plan for the funeral scheduled for Saturday. This is still and open and active investigation. If you have any information, call the Milledgeville Police Department at 478-414-4000.
