Get your geek on: Middle Georgia Comic Con returns to Macon

This year, the convention is two days at the Edgar H. Wilson Convention Center on Coliseum Drive.

MACON, Ga. — Comic fans assemble! The fourth annual Middle Georgia Comic Convention is back in Macon.

This year, the convention has two days of events.

"It gives us the chance to continue to grow the convention a little bit more. It's going to be the most vendors we've ever had, the most artists we've ever had on-site, the most guests we've ever had, it's nuts," Owner of Fanboy Comics and Collectibles Monique Huffman said.

Fanboy Comics and Collectibles is the organizer for the event and this year it's in a bigger space at the Edgar H. Wilson Convention Center on Coliseum Drive.

"This gives a new person kind of an overarching view of pretty much all of the geeky fandoms that are out there," Huffman said.

She says there are a variety of guests and vendors in this year's lineup.

Guests include retired wrestler Theodore "Ted" DiBiase Sr. aka"The Million Dollar Man", comic book artist Dan Fraga, illustrator Robert Pope, voice actor Laurie Hymes and so many more.

You can check out the full list of guests, vendors and artists on the convention website.

No matter your fandom, there is something for you at the convention. People who love old-school wrestling, board games, anime, video games, card games, Dungeons and Dragons, cartoons and so much more can find community during the event.

"For Mike, my husband, and myself this has always been the big push. It's been building a fandom community within Macon and Middle Georgia. We moved down here from Atlanta and from the time that we moved, we've always really put our focus into this area and building this area and supporting this area," Huffman said.

She says she and her husband could not have made the convention happen without the support of volunteers and the Macon community.

"It's all due to the fans. If people had said 'eh?' then we wouldn't have kept going but everybody's been super excited about it and ready for another one," she said.

If you love Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart, Smash Ultimate and other games, for the first time, there will be a video game tournament during the convention. You can find out how to sign up on the convention website.

"The 501st squadron, which is the Star Wars organization, is going to be there in addition to the Georgia Ghostbusters, are going to be on-site as well," Huffman said.

The Macon Mayhem is also making an appearance at the convention.

The teams' games on Friday and Saturday night will be superhero-themed and you can get tickets to the convention during the game. You also get tickets to see the Mayhem during the convention.

Huffman says she and her husband love owning a comic book store because it encourages literacy, especially in kids, and it brings people together.

"Bringing families together to read, to collect, you know, different things. For the same reason, we have a pretty sizable board game and card game section in the store as well, so families can play the games together," she said.

The Middle Georgia Comic Con is on Saturday and Sunday at the Edgar H. Wilson Convention Center on Coliseum Drive. Saturday is from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday is from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for each day or $20 for both days. You can get them on the convention's website.
