Milledgeville — Food banks throughout Central Georgia can expect to benefit from Thursday's Stuff the Truck event for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank.
The MIA Food Bank arrived in Baldwin County in 2012 and is one of the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank's biggest partners in the region.
"We just help people in need that need a push to get to the next level in life," said Timothy Maddox, CEO of MIA Food Bank.
MIA feeds between 200 and 300 families a week, according to Maddox.
The company's partnership with Feeding America and the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank helped to buy a refrigerated trailer for mobile service and allows them to buy food directly from the community food bank online.
"I actually order the food in bulk. If we need to serve 500-600 people, guess what, we can put the order in with the partner support that is given and hey, we can serve that community when its needed," Maddox said.
Like many food banks, much of the work depends on volunteers like Central State Hospital retiree, Sharon Ingram. Her and others package meat, cakes, vegetables and other items and walk them right up to people's cars.
"I love working with people and I love helping the community," Ingram said. "Every week we make a huge impact."
Maddox and Ingram agree that while one big push like the Stuff the Truck event is important and helpful, feeding the homeless is an everyday job.
"You see one time? One time does not help. We always need community partners to come in and partner with us and make this happen," Maddox said.
Trucks for the Stuff the Truck event will be at Walmart stores in three locations: Zebulon Road in Macon, Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins and Columbia Street in Milledgeville.
