Looking for Memorial Day activities? Here's where you can go around central Georgia

You and your family can spend some time together for Memorial Day at these community events.

MACON, Ga. — Memorial Day is almost here.

The day of remembrance is on May 27, and lots of families will be looking for ways to spend time together that Monday. 

Here's a few places around central Georgia that are hosting folks for the holiday.

1) Memorial Day Murph

If you are into fitness, this event is for you. The Murph is a CrossFit Hero workout that honors the legacy of U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who died in the line of duty in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.

The workout includes:

  • 1-mile run 
  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 push-ups
  • 300 air squats
  • 1-mile run

The event will take place at Praetorian CrossFit Monday, May 27th 2024. Heats will run at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Drop ins are welcome, but will pay a fee of $20 per drop-in. All the proceeds go to the Navy Seal Foundation.

2) Memorial Day BBQ

Storage Sense in Warner Robins is hosting a Memorial Day BBQ.

In a post to Facebook, they say its to "honor America’s military men and women who lost their lives lives serving our country."

The BBQ is from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

3) Putnam Memorial Day Ceremony

Putnam County is hosting a ceremony at the Putnam County Veterans Wall of Honor at 11 a.m. 

A guest speaker will be there, along with PCHS Choir & 21 gun salute presentation from Eatonton Police Department Honor Guard.

It will be a 30 minute ceremony followed by food & fellowship with VFW Post 6686 at 914 Oak Street.

4) Scavenger Hunt Macon

Looking for a fun family outing for Monday the 27th? You can always take the family or groups of people to a "traditional scavenger hunt with a modern twist."

The hunt is self guided - you can play almost anywhere and at any time on any day - no reservations required! Most groups complete the scavenger hunt in around 90 minutes.

5) 9th Annual Memorial Day float/river cleanup at Amerson River Park

It's floating season at Amerson River Park! Each Memorial day they host a big float/cleanup session for the river. 

Be sure to bring a life vest and trash bag. You can also bring kayaks, paddle boards, inner tubes, and more. 

Everything starts at 8 a.m. and can last till 7 p.m.
