First medical marijuana dispensary in Georgia opens in Macon

They held their grand opening on Friday morning. Dozens gathered ready to make their first purchase.

MACON, Ga. — History was made right here in Central Georgia with the first medical marijuana dispensary in the state opening on Riverside Drive.

They held their grand opening on Friday morning and dozens of people were there ready to make their first purchase.

The company is called Trulieve and the new shop is on Riverside Drive. They will sell lotions, capsules, and droplets all containing cannabis oil.

Currently, Georgia has around 28,000 patients registered to buy that form of medical marijuana. You must have an active low-thc oil patient registry card. The CEO Kim Rivers said people can come in or buy online.

"It's very important for us to not only be here and open for business for sales but also as an education center,” Rivers said. “I would encourage folks that if you have questions about medical cannabis if you're wondering what I do next. Two things, one, feel free to stop by our store, we'd love to talk to you but also online at Trulieve.com."

The store does not accept insurance and if you have trouble finding a doctor to approve you for a THC card you can find a list of doctors on Trulieve’s website.

The dispensary is located at 3556 Riverside Drive.
