HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for trafficking Fentanyl, the Houston County District Attorney's Office says.
47-year-old Joseph McKee White pleaded guilty to the offense of trafficking more than 14 grams of Fentanyl on Friday.
In a release, the DA says on September 19 of last year, the Houston County narcotics unit searched White's home and conducted a traffic stop on his car, where they found around 18 grams of Fentanyl and several grams of methamphetamine.
Chief Superior Court Judge Edward Lukemire accepted the guilty plea and sentenced White to 20 years with the first 15 to be served in prison, along with a $200,000 fine and other special conditions of Probation.
District Attorney Kendall said this case was important in keeping Fentanyl off the streets.
“This is a case that was brought by the Houston County Counter Narcotics Task Force (CNTF). Fentanyl is killing people across the nation, state and right here in our own community. This drug has been found laced in nearly every kind of drug available on the streets and has caused a significant number of overdoses among all ages. I am appreciative of the efforts of the Houston County Narcotics Investigators, the CNTF and the prosecutors in my office for seeking justice and cleaning up this county. People who peddle this poison do not belong on our streets, they are a danger to those addicted to drugs, recreational users and people on the roadway. We will continue to seek out those who possess and peddle fentanyl and hold them accountable in the court of law,” he said.
