Man killed in east Macon house fire

Fire officials say there were no active smoke detectors in the home at the time of the fire

MACON, Ga. — A man died early Sunday in a Macon house fire.

According to Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins, the call came in around 12:40 a.m. for a house fire on Taylor Street.

When crews got to the scene, they found the front side of the home almost fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters found a man inside the home and carried him out. He was later pronounced dead at the scene an hour later.

Bibb Coroner Leon Jones identified him as 47-year-old Frederick Hill.

Riggins says there were no active smoke detectors in the home and that the fire appears to have started in a front bedroom of the house.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
