Update: Fatal Monroe County fire caused by space heater

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the trailer of the 18-wheeler was being used as a residence.

JACKSON, Ga. — A man is dead after the trailer of an 18-wheeler caught fire in Jackson in Monroe County Monday morning.

Anna Lewis with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 5:15 a.m. on Pine Drive near Buck Creek Road.

She says the trailer of an 18-wheeler was being used as a residence, and a man was found dead inside.

He hasn't been identified yet, according to Lewis.

According to the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office, the fire was caused by a propane space heater.

Over the weekend, there were two fatal fires in the Central Georgia area.

In Butts County, a 12-year-old was killed and a 16-year-old injured after a house fire on Sunday morning.

The same day in Macon, a man and dog were also killed in a house fire in the Pleasant Hill neighborhood. That man has also not been identified yet.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
