Man dead after falling off tube, drowning in Lake Allatoona, officials say

The man who died has been identified as Robbie Cornelius, 40, of Marietta, DNR said.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — One man is dead after falling off a tube and drowning in Lake Allatoona on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, multiple agencies responded to a boating incident with a missing person on Lake Allatoona near Little River Marina shortly before 2:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they learned that a group on a rental boat was tubing when a 40-year-old man fell off the tube. He has since been identified as Robbie Cornelius of Marietta, DNR said.

According to the agency, Cornelius was not wearing a life jacket and immediately complained of leg pain after falling off. Several people jumped into the water to attempt to rescue him but had to leave him when he began to pull them under.

Game Wardens and Cherokee County Fire began a search using side scan SONAR to attempt to locate him. Around 5 p.m., Cornelius was located and recovered in 16 ft of water.
