Man dead after being hit by a car near Milledgeville

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A man is dead on Sunday morning after getting hit by a car just outside of Milledgeville.

Baldwin County Deputy Coroner Ken Garland says it happened in the 300 block of Colony Farm Road.

He says 21-year-old Damon Dukes of Milledgeville was pronounced dead around 1 a.m.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Dukes was lying in the roadway wearing black clothing when a Honda Civic, traveling south, hit him.

The Honda then drove a short distance away and turned back around.

They say Dukes suffered severe injuries and CPR was started by deputies upon arrival. Their efforts were unsuccessful.

The report from GSP says there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Dukes at the time.

A blood sample was collected by Garland.
