Man arrested after shooting gun in the air at Crisp County gathering, sheriff's office says

The sheriff's office says he was arrested and charged with reckless conduct.

CORDELE, Ga. — Update:

A 21-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested during a series of shootings that took place at a large Crisp County gathering on Sunday, according to the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.

That night, Rakim Jackson, 36, was arrested and charged with reckless conduct after deputies saw him shooting his gun in the air, the sheriff's office said in a press release on Monday. However, they said that they heard more gunshots ring out as they arrested Jackson.

On Wednesday, the sheriff's office announced 21-year-old Kanorius Woodson and a 15-year-old for being a "party" to aggravated assault. Because the second person is a minor, they are not releasing their name.

But the sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, you are asked to call the Crisp County Sheriff's Office at 229-276-2690 or the Cordele Police Department at 229-276-2921.

A man was arrested in Cordele early Sunday morning after shooting his gun in the air during a large gathering, according to a press release from the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office says 36-year-old Rakim Jackson of Cordele was arrested and charged with reckless conduct.

They say it happened at around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday. A large crowd had formed near 7th Street South in Cordele, and deputies responded to help break up the group.

But when law enforcement arrived on the scene, they heard gunshots ring out, the press release said.

The sheriff's office says a deputy saw a man — later identified as Jackson — shoot a gun in the air several times. While they were arresting Jackson, they say more shots were fired, but no one else was arrested.

Deputies were also called to two residences near the shootings where they found bullet holes and shell casings.

Jackson was booked into the Crisp County jail.

In a press release, the sheriff's office says they are still working to identify the other shooters.

The sheriff's office also warns about firing gunshots in the air since "falling bullets can be as lethal as directly fired ones."

If you have any information about the shootings, you can call the Crisp County Sheriff's Office at 229-276-2690 or the Cordele Police Department at 229-276-2921.
