MACON, Ga. — The state of Georgia is rolling out a pilot program to enroll elementary school kids into agriculture classes.
Heard Elementary is one of the schools trying out the new curriculum.
Kids will grow plants in raised beds in the back of the school.
They will also get the chance to travel to Rutland Middle and Elementary schools and interact with animals.
Rutland already has an agriculture program in place.
Carol Baker Dunn is going to be the agriculture teacher at Heard Elementary.
"My little ones are going to be absolutely fascinated, and I can't wait to see this group of kindergartners coming in, and they're going to be exposed their very first year right off the bat where they can go to the 4-H program and the FFA program when they get to middle and high school," she said.
Every student at Heard Elementary will get 45 minutes a week this year in the agriculture class.
