MACON, Ga. — A woman who pleaded guilty to helping four men escape the Bibb County Jail exactly one year ago has learned her sentence.
Appearing before U.S. District Judge C. Ashley Royal, Janecia Green was sentenced Wednesday for helping Marc Anderson, Chavis Stokes, Johnifer Barnwell and Joey Fournier.
Prosecutors say Green was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, which is three times higher than the top of Green's federal sentencing guidelines. She also faces three years of supervised release after she serves her prison time.
Exactly one year ago on Oct. 16, 2023, the four men broke out from a damaged dayroom window, jumping into an exterior courtyard and sliding through two holes cut into the jail's fence.
Three days before the escape, Green purchased a mallet and chisel at Home Depot that the four men used to break out of the downtown Macon jail, the U.S. Attorney Office for the Middle District of Georgia says.
Prosecutors say that Green then gave the equipment to Christian Williams, an associate of Barnwell, who helped get the mallet smuggled into the jail.
Williams himself was an escaped fugitive who was allegedly kidnapped the day he was set to stand trial for murder.
“Janecia Green put our entire community at risk when she chose to help Johnifer Barnwell and several other dangerous convicted felons escape from the Bibb County Jail,” U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary said. “This sentencing illustrates the serious consequences facing those who help criminals evade justice.”
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis says that the extent of her sentence hopes it serves as an example.
“The sentence handed down on Janecia Green illustrates the severe penalty for assisting a convicted felon and others in escaping the Bibb County Jail,” Davis said.
