20-year-old arrested for allegedly killing man at west Macon Walmart, sheriff's office says

The two men were trying to steal the man's car but he refused, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office has arrested another man in the death of Ronnie Albea, 41, who was shot at a Wal-Mart parking lot after refusing to give his keys to an armed robber, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

They say it happened at the store's Harrison Road location on Aug. 5, 2022.

Back in April 2023,  Elijiah Dwayne Gray was arrested in Albea's death.

But then on Tuesday, another man, 20-year-old Mycco Bachion Gray, was arrested just after 6 p.m. after a short foot chase, the press release said.

They found him at a residence in the 70 block of Short Street.

Albea's fiance was approached by two men and demanded the keys to their car, the press release said.

However, Albea refused to give them the keys and, during the fight, they would go on and shoot Albea, the press release said.

Albea was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Gray is charged with murder and hijacking of a motor vehicle, and the sheriff's office says he is currently being held without bond.

The shooting of Albea has prompted additional attention on the Harrison Road Walmart.

Albea's family announced in May that they were suing Walmart, arguing that they knew the location attached crime and should have provided better safety.

His family's attorneys, Katherine McArthur and Jessica Edmonds, said that crime had been a longstanding issue at the store.

"Big history of violent crime in the neighborhood. Just at the Walmart, the calls to law enforcement the last two years have shown more than 30 incidents of violent crime occurring," McArthur said at the time.

Walmart sent 13WMAZ a statement:

“Our condolences go out to Mr. Albea’s family and friends for their loss. The safety and security of our customers and associates is always a top priority, and we have a process in place to assess store security. We do not share our security measures publicly, because it could make them less effective. We will continue our long-standing practice of regularly evaluating our staffing, training, procedures, and technology, which are designed to provide a safe working and shopping experience.”
