One dead in west Macon shooting.

A 49-year-old man is dead after being shot Thursday morning during an altercation at a home on Suzanne Drive off of Napier Avenue in west Macon.

Andrew Brown is the man who was killed, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said neither of the men involved in the shooting were the owners of the home at 4028 Suzanne Drive.

"Part of our investigation is seeing who had status of the house, who was supposed to be there," Davis said.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff's Office news release, 20-year-old Drevon McLaurin called 911 at about 6:20 a.m. stating that an intruder was in his home attacking him with a hammer, the sheriff said.

During the struggle, McLaurin, who called 911, shot Brown, the attacker, killing him, Davis said.

McLaurin is being treated at a Macon hospital for head injuries.

Animal control was called to the scene because there were four dogs in the house. The animals are being taken to the county's animal welfare department.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at (478)751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
