A fire gutted the historic Nu-Way Weiners in downtown Macon early Friday.
UPDATE: A chief with the Macon-Bibb County fire department said the fire may have been caused by an electrical issue.
The blaze started in the back of the 120-year-old building at 430 Cotton Ave., at about 3 a.m. fire officials said.
Investigators had the road blocked off this morning.
A battalion chief with the Macon-Bibb County fire department said the building is "a total loss." He added that it'll take a while before investigators are allowed in because the building is unsafe.
Nu-Way owners, Spyros Dermatas and Jim Cacavias, said fire crews told them there was no way the building could be saved.
Nu-Way started in Macon in 1916 and the owners of the family business said this will not be the end of their business.
The 18 employees at the business will be spread out to other Nu-Way locations, the owners said.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
